Our Story

About Reclaim Hope Foundation

Reclaim Hope Foundation exists because recovery is not only possible — it is happening every day in communities across the Colorado Front Range. Founded in 2014 by a clinician who knows the journey firsthand, we combine professional expertise with the authenticity of lived experience to build pathways from addiction to purpose.

Our Mission

To empower individuals and families affected by substance use disorders through evidence-based peer support, workforce reintegration, family reunification, and community advocacy. We meet people where they are, walk alongside them through recovery, and equip them with the tools, connections, and opportunities needed to build lives of dignity, purpose, and belonging.

Our Vision

A Colorado where addiction is met with compassion rather than punishment, where recovery is celebrated as an act of courage, where every person has equitable access to the support they need, and where the communities most affected by the substance use crisis lead the solutions. We envision a future in which the stigma surrounding addiction is replaced by understanding and the systems that serve people in recovery are designed with their voices at the center.

Our Values

  • Dignity First: Every person deserves respect regardless of where they are in their journey.
  • Lived Experience: The credibility of personal recovery is a clinical asset, not a liability.
  • Equity: Access to recovery support must not depend on income, race, or zip code.
  • Transparency: We measure outcomes honestly and share them openly.
  • Community: Healing happens in relationship, never in isolation.

Founder & Executive Director

Daniel Moreno-Castillo, LCSW, LAC

Daniel Moreno-Castillo founded Reclaim Hope Foundation in 2014 after spending a decade in his own recovery journey and witnessing firsthand the gaps in Colorado’s behavioral health system. Growing up in Commerce City, Daniel lost his older brother to an opioid overdose in 2006 — an event that became the catalyst for both his personal recovery and his professional calling. Determined to transform grief into service, Daniel enrolled at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work, earning his Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in substance use disorders and community practice.

After completing clinical licensure as both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW #CSW-09847) and a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC #LAC-2019-04782) through the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), Daniel spent three years working at Denver Health’s behavioral health unit before founding Reclaim Hope Foundation with a two-person team operating out of a donated church basement in Five Points.

Today, Daniel leads a team of twenty-eight full-time staff and over sixty active volunteers, overseeing an annual budget of two point four million dollars and programs that serve more than eight thousand individuals across the Front Range. He holds the National Certified Addiction Counselor Level II (NCC II) credential through NAADAC and serves on the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration’s Peer Services Advisory Committee. Daniel is a frequent speaker at state and national conferences on peer support integration, recovery-oriented systems of care, and the role of lived experience in clinical practice.

“I built this organization because I know what it feels like to have no one in your corner,” Daniel says. “When I was in my darkest place, someone reached out. That hand changed everything. Reclaim Hope exists to be that hand for as many people as possible.”
